Skyhawks follow Kvidera’s lead

Ally Kvidera began her senior season with a bang, a six-shooter, if you will.

Kvidera scored a double hat trick of six goals in the Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team’s season opener, a 14-7 win over Colorado Mesa on Saturday at Walker Field in Grand Junction.

“We played really well all around, offensively and defensively,” FLC head coach Kelsey MacDonald said in a news release. “It was a good team win.

“Our defense played unbelievable in the second half and pretty much won the game in the second half. Our offense was strong in the first half, and the defense came through when we needed them to.”

Brook Wineland scored the game’s first goal, and Kvidera’s first hat trick gave the Skyhawks a 4-0 lead just seven minutes into the game.

FLC, which led the entire game, led 11-3 at halftime.

Abby Kvidera, Ally’s twin sister, also scored a hat trick. Kathryn Dunn, Jessica Norby and Kylie Smith each scored a goal.

Ally Kvidera finished the game with seven points on six goals and an assist. Wineland had four points on two goals and two assists.

Alyssa Spencer, the Durango High School alumna, made eight saves for the win.
