Skyhawks golf struggling in Phoenix

Monday wasn’t kind to the Fort Lewis College men’s golf team.

The FLC Skyhawks finished the first two rounds of the Western New Mexico Mustang Intercollegiate at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Phoenix in last place out of 20 teams.

Lucas Laudick had the best individual day among the Skyhawks in the field. He shot a 4-over-par 76 in the first round before posting an even-par 72 in the second round. He is in a five-way tie for 44th place entering the final round Tuesday.

Dylan Washburn turned in consecutive rounds of 76, putting him in a 10-way tied for 62nd.

Bryan Schlichter and Michael Thomas both shot 155 over two rounds, and Morgan Miller is in 89th after posting 157.

The Skyhawks shot 609 as a team, placing them seven strokes behind CSU-East Bay and MSU-Billings for 18th, and 41 strokes behind first-place California State-Stanislaus, who has the top individual in Anthony Manguray, who is at 7-under-par after the two rounds.

This is the final regular season tournament of the year for the Skyhawks, who next compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship on April 21-22 at The Golf Club at Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
