Skyhawks golfers come up short in opener

Men’s and women’s teams end week near bottom

It was a slow start to the season for Fort Lewis College’s golf teams as they both finished in the bottom half of the pack at the season’s first conference tournament.

The men’s golf team finished 10th out of 12 teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener at Heritage Todd Creek Golf Club in Thornton.

The Skyhawks posted a three-round total of 62-over-par, 926. Mitch Donley’s 77 in the third round was the team’s low for the day. Donley finished the week at 23 over.

Dillon Washburn posted an 8-over 80 in the third round after rounds of 73 and 75. He led the Skyhawks for the week and finished the event at 12 over, tied for 28th.

Michael Thomas and Ryan Tanner each tied for 43rd at 18 over. Trevor Bogus finished tied for 51st with 20 over.

UC-Colorado Springs won at 9 over.

The FLC women finished 13th out of 14 teams at Fox Hill Country Club in Longmont. Over two rounds, they shot a team total of 744, 168-over par.

Freshman Isabella Martinez followed up an opening round 80 with 85 in the second round. She finished in the top 20, tied for 18th place.

Jessica Thulson shot a second round 92 and tied for 55th with 38-over 152. Lindsey Blythe (54 over), Lauren Trujillo (58 over) and Judith Camacho (64 over) were the other contributing Skyhawks.

Colorado Mesa University won the women’s event at 51 over as a team. Allie Johnston of Metro State won the individual title shooting 8-over 152.
