Fort Lewis College played a much better second round Monday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to get the Skyhawks out of last place.
FLC is in ninth out of nine teams after two rounds of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
FLC freshman Morgan Miller, a Durango High School alumn, had the best day among the Skyhawks. He shot a 5-over-77 in the morning and a 2-over 74 in the afternoon. His 151 has him sitting in a four-way tie for 19th, 11 strokes behind the leader, David Metz of Western New Mexico.
Lucas Laudick and Dillon Washburn each posted 153 after two rounds. Brian Schlichter shot 81 and 77, putting him in a tie for 34th, and Josh Woodworth shot 163 over two rounds. He stands in 42nd out of the 45 golfers in the field.
Western New Mexico is in first place as a team with a score of 582. Colorado Mesa is in second place at 593, and UC-Colorado Springs is in a tie with CSU-Pueblo for third at 594.
The third and final round of the tournament tees off at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
