Libero named week’s top defensive player
Fort Lewis College libero Jenna Kinzer averaged 6.29 digs per set in FLC’s sweep of Western State and Adams State last weekend, earning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday.

A bounceback weekend for the Fort Lewis College volleyball team earned its top defensive player a bit of league-wide recognition.

FLC senior libero Jenna Kinzer was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for her role in helping the Skyhawks sweep Western State and Adams State last weekend.

Kinzer started her weekend with a 27-dig performance against Western State on Friday as the Skyhawks (3-11, 3-3 RMAC) won their home opener 3-1 over the Mountaineers after opening the season with 12 consecutive games away from Whalen Gymnasium.

The Colorado Springs product kept her roll going in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Adams State. Kinzer contributed 17 digs against the Grizzlies as Fort Lewis racked up consecutive victories for the first time this season to get back to .500 in conference play.

All told, Kinzer averaged 6.29 digs per set in the two matches and added two assists and two service aces.

Melanie Wannamaker of Colorado Mines had 52 kills in three matches, averaging 5.20 kills per set to earn the RMAC’s top offensive honor for the week, and fellow Oredigger Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood averaged 14.20 assists per set in Mines’ 3-0 week to take home the week’s top setter honors.

FLC will hit the road again Friday to take on Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D., before visiting Chadron State on Saturday.
