Two minutes. 120 seconds.
That’s all that stood between the Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team capping a 4-0 win over New Mexico Highlands on Sunday at Dirks Field.
Unfortunately, the Skyhawks will have to start from scratch.
Two lengthy lightning delays and unplayable field conditions forced a postponement of the game between FLC and the Cowgirls to a date and time to be determined, when the game will start over from the beginning.
The seventh-ranked Skyhawks were dominant when they were able to play, getting goals from Emma Cannis, Megan Striedel, Jordan Hix and Sam Weiss, but the game was called after a second delay with 22 minutes to play.
Rules dictate that 70 minutes must be played for a game to be counted as complete.
It’s the second time this week the Fort Lewis College soccer program had a lead, then a game, stripped from the standings. The FLC men’s program was seven minutes shy of a complete-game 1-0 victory over Adams State.
The FLC women’s soccer team (5-0, 1-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) next will host Western State at 3 p.m. Friday.
After 68-plus minutes of scoreless soccer Sunday that was washed out, the Skyhawks’ scoreless streak remains at 417 minutes, 4 seconds.

Skyhawks’ men’s game pushed to Monday
When weather forced the first of two lengthy delays in the Fort Lewis College women’s soccer game Sunday, it claimed the men’s game as collateral damage.
The Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team, ranked 22nd in the nation, will play Colorado Christian at 11 a.m. Monday at Dirks Field in attempt No. 3 at the Skyhawks’ Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener.
FLC’s game against Adams State, originally rescheduled for Tuesday at home after it was wiped out by weather last week, now is scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Dirks Field.
FLC (2-0-1) will play road games this weekend.
