The Fort Lewis College men’s basketball team kept its 35-week streak of being ranked in the National Association of Basketball Coaches poll alive when the Skyhawks came in ranked at No. 22 in this week’s poll.
The Skyhawks are 9-2 overall this season and 5-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They slipped from No. 16 to 22nd in the rankings after a 90-75 loss to RMAC foe Westminster College on Dec. 15 in Salt Lake City, then crushed NAIA Northern New Mexico College 104-59 on Dec. 18 in Durango.
FLC garnered 62 points in this week’s poll.
Northwest Missouri State holds the top spot in this week’s rankings. The Bearcats received 15 of the 16 first-place votes for 399 points. North Carolina’s Queens University of Charlotte came in second with 375 points and the other first-place vote.
Colorado School of Mines was the only other RMAC program to be ranked in the top 25. The Orediggers (11-1, 5-1 RMAC) are No. 12 with 229 points. Regis University (10-2, 4-2 RMAC) received votes in the poll and had two points this week.
The Skyhawks will host Chadron State University (3-9, 1-5 RMAC) at 5 p.m. Friday and Regis at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be played at Whalen Gymnasium on the FLC campus.
A new poll from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association was not released this week, and the FLC women’s basketball team remains ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II.
The Skyhawks (11-1, 5-1 RMAC) will host Chadron State (3-9, 1-5 RMAC) at 3 p.m. Friday and Regis (5-6, 4-2 RMAC) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Whalen Gymnasium.
