Skyhawks Scoreboard: Fort Lewis College men’s golf finishes 20th at Mustang Intercollegiate

There were 136 rounds of even-par or better

Palm Valley Golf Club was set up for low scores, but the Skyhawks couldn’t take advantage during the Mustang Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament hosted by Western New Mexico University on Monday and Tuesday in Goodyear, Arizona.

The Fort Lewis College men’s golf team finished last out of 20 teams at the tournament with a team score of 905 after three rounds on the par-72 course.

Dixie State University, which will join the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at the start of the 2018-19 school year, won the team title with a score of 839.

Colorado School of Mines was second with an 841, followed by University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and Western Washington with 845 each. Colorado Christian rounded out the top five with an 846.

Dixie State’s Nicklaus Britt and UCCS’ Jack Duguid finished with matching 12-under-par 204s for the low individual scores. Britt shot rounds of 71-70-63; Duguid shot 67-70-67.

Colorado Christian’s Chase Carlson shot a 205, and UCCS’ Colin Prater shot a 206.

Of the 323 rounds played during the tournament, 109 were under par and another 27 were at even par. Forty-four of the 109 under-par rounds were in the 60s.

Only one Skyhawk, Tyler Blohm, shot even or better, as the sophomore from Tucson, Arizona, shot a 1-under 71 in the third round. Blohm was the low FLC player with a 223, which placed 71st. He shot rounds of 75-77-71.

FLC’s Austin Lienemann finished tied for 72nd at 224 with rounds of 75-74-75; Eric Neal tied for 89th with rounds of 76-77-76 for a 229; Matt Huntley tied for 93rd with a total of 231 after shooting 73-81-77. Hugh Taylor shot rounds of 82 and 79 before not posting a score for the final round.

The Skyhawks will be off until the RMAC Championship on April 22-24 at Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona.
