The Fort Lewis men’s golf team received the No. 6 ranking in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s preseason coaches’ poll.

The Skyhawks received one first-place vote. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their own team.

The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs earned the top spot in the poll, receiving five of the nine first-place votes.

UCCS’s Colin Prater was named the preseason golfer of the year.

The FLC women’s team is ranked eighth in the preseason poll.

UCCS took the No. 1 ranking for the women as well with seven of the 12 first-place votes, and the Mountain Lions’ Alex Darwin was named the preseason golfer of the year.

No FLC players for the men or women were named to the preseason All-RMAC team.

The FLC women will host a tournament at home for the first time in years with the Skyhawks West Regional Preview being played Sept. 18-19 at Hillcrest Golf Club. The men also will host the RMAC Men’s Golf Fall Event on Oct. 9-10 at Hillcrest.

Cross-country

The Fort Lewis women’s and men’s cross-country teams were picked sixth and 10th, respectively, in the RMAC preseason coaches’ poll.

The RMAC is loaded with talent again this year. The Adams State men, the defending Division II national champions, are ranked No. 1 in the RMAC poll and the national poll. Colorado School of Mines is ranked second in the RMAC and third nationally, while Colorado State University-Pueblo got the No. 3 ranking in the RMAC and is seventh in the nation.

The ASU women also received the No. 1 ranking in the RMAC coaches’ poll and are ranked second in the national poll.

Adams State’s Sydney Gidabuday, who placed fourth at the NCAA Division II National Championships last year, was voted the preseason men’s runner of the year.

Alicja Konieczek, a two-time All-American for Western State Colorado University, was named the preseason women’s runner of the year.

No FLC men or women were named to the preseason All-RMAC team.

Women’s lacrosse

The Fort Lewis women’s lacrosse team named Anna Salemo its assistant coach Thursday. She will join the staff under first-year head coach Sean Claussen.

Salemo, a Littleton native, is a 2017 graduate of Stanford University where she netted 35 goals and nine assists in 20 games for the Cardinal.

Prior to joining the Skyhawks, Salemo coached with the NorCal Rize Lacrosse club team, helped coach Stanford’s fall and winter camps and was the varsity coach at Mountain View High School in Mountain View, California.
