Skyhawks Scoreboard: Fort Lewis College men’s soccer falls to third in RMAC with loss to Colorado Mines

Top two teams in RMAC collide

Fort Lewis College and Colorado School of Mines met in a key Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference showdown Sunday in Golden. The top team in the league kept the second-place team in check, as the Colorado Mines Orediggers, ranked No. 15, took a 1-0 victory.

Ashi Geberkidane scored in the 72nd minute for the Orediggers (11-3, 9-1 RMAC) to beat the Skyhawks (6-4-4, 6-2-2 RMAC). He collected a loose ball on a throw-in and hit a blast from 6 yards out to beat FLC goalkeeper Peter Byrne, who made five saves in the match.

FLC only recored eight shots and didn’t put a single shot on goal.

FLC fell to third in the conference with the loss, as Colorado Mesa (11-2-1, 7-2-1 RMAC) moved into second behind Mines.

FLC will host Regis at 3 p.m. Friday at Dirks Field.

Women’s Soccer

The Fort Lewis women’s soccer team saw a three-game win streak end Sunday at home against Westminster College of Salt Lake City.

FLC (4-7-1, 4-5-0 RMAC) scored first in the 16th minute with a goal from Emma Parton, her third of the season. She was assisted by Jessica Singleton.

But Westminster (6-7-1, 3-5-1 RMAC) scored three unanswered goals to steal the game. Emma Heyn scored on a free kick in the 21st minute with an assist from Jayne Christensen. Jacqueline Williams added a 55th-minute goal assisted by Allie Milelrberg. Willaims’ goal came on a header.

Libby Dearden added a late goal in the 80h minute for Westminster on a penalty kick.

FLC will get a little extra time before its next game Oct. 22 at Adams State.
