Skyhawks scoreboard: Fort Lewis College men’s soccer wins second in a row

FLC women struggle against Regis

The Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team picked up its second win in a row with a 2-1 victory against Westminster Friday afternoon at Dirks Field.

The Skyhawks (2-2-3, 2-0-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) took a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. Salifu Jatta played a cross into the box from the right side and found Landon Gibson for a goal to make it 1-0 in the 22nd minute. Two minutes later, a long pass from Jean Meibohm bounced over Westminster’s defense and gathered by Ryan Lee, who put the ball in the net.

Westminster got a garbage time goal in the 84th minute when Danny Darelli found the back of the net.

The Skyhawks will host No. 10 Colorado Mesa (6-1, 2-1) at 2:30 p.m., Sunday at Dirks Field.

Women’s soccer

The Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team couldn’t find a way to slow down the attack from Regis University or build its own attack Friday at Dirks Field.

The Rangers (4-1-2, 2-0-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) controlled the match, put nine of their 15 shots on goal and eventually slipped a shot past the Skyhawks (1-4-1, 1-2) to earn a 1-0 win.

Regis’ Cat Devitt broke the 0-0 match in the 75th minute. After a Regis corner was knocked out to the top of the box, Devitt put her only shot of the match past Fort Lewis keeper Ali Miller.

FLC will host Metro State University-Denver (2-4, 1-1) at noon on Sunday at Dirks Field.
