Skyhawks scoreboard: Fort Lewis College women’s basketball climbs in national poll

Skyhawks come in at No. 15

The Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team moved up one spot to No. 15 in this week’s Women’s Basketball Coaches Association coaches poll.

The Skyhawks are 11-1 overall this season and 5-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and have been ranked in the top 25 every week this season. They received 253 points.

Last week, FLC crushed Adams State University 82-47 at home on Dec. 12, then picked up a 63-62 win after the Skyhawks trailed Westminster College nearly the entire game Dec. 15 in Salt Lake City.

Ashland University of Ashland, Ohio, kept the No. 1 ranking in this week’s poll with all 23 first place votes for 575 points.

FLC was the only RMAC program to be ranked in the top 25. No other RMAC teams received votes in this week’s poll.

The Skyhawks will be off this weekend for the holidays and will host Chadron State (3-9, 1-5 RMAC) Dec. 29 and Regis University (5-6, 4-2 RMAC) on Dec. 30 at Whalen Gymnasium in Durango.

A new poll from the National Association of Basketball Coaches for Division II men’s basketball was not released with week.

The Fort Lewis College men’s basketball team was ranked 15th in last week’s poll, but suffered a 90-75 loss to Westminster College on Dec. 15 in Salt Lake City. The loss to the Griffins could end the Skyhawks’ run of 34 consecutive weeks ranked in the top 25. The next NABC poll will be released Tuesday.

FLC (9-2, 5-1 RMAC) will host Chadron State (3-9, 1-5 RMAC) Dec. 29 and Regis University (10-2, 4-2 RMAC) on Dec. 30 at Whalen Gymnasium in Durango.
