Skyhawks Scoreboard: Fort Lewis College women’s golf finishes 19th at Mustang Intercollegiate

Jessica Lee sets school record for pole vault

The Fort Lewis College women’s golf team wrapped up the regular season with a 19th-place finish at the Mustang Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

The Skyhawks posted a team score of 655 in two rounds Monday and Tuesday on the par-72 Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona. Twenty teams competed at the tournament.

Dallas Baptist University took the team title with a 12-under par 564. Four Patriots finished in the top five. California Baptist was second with a 570 and Tarleton State was third at 577.

Evelyn Arguelles of Dallas Baptist and Jocelyn Chee Yi Min of California Baptist tied for the individual title with 4-under 140s. Dallas Baptist’s Hanna Harrison and Ann Parmerter tied for third with 141s, and Addison Mitchell was fifth with a 142. There were 104 players at the tournament.

Summer Vigil led the Skyhawks with a 155 after rounds of 77-78, which tied for 54th. Isabella Martinez shot 87-73 to finish tied for 72nd, Sophie Schwartz shot a pair of 84s to place 95th, Amanda Westrick shot two rounds of 86 to finish 98th and Kara Tschirhart shot 90-86 to tie for 99th.

Four other Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams joined FLC in Arizona. Colorado Mesa University tied for fifth with a 596, Regis University tied for seventh with a 601, Colorado State University-Pueblo finished ninth with a 602 and Metro State University was 15th with a 622.

The Skyhawks will have this week off to prepare for the RMAC Championships on April 22-24 at Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona.

Track and Field

The Fort Lewis College track and field team saw another school record fall Saturday at the University of New Mexico Don Kirby Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Freshman Jessica Lee, a 2017 Durango High graduate, cleared 10 feet, 0.75 inches in the pole vault to place eighth and set a new FLC record in the event. The previous record was held by Bayfield’s Katie Hawkins, who had set a mark of 9-10 last season.

The FLC 4x400-meter relay team of Emma Alaimo, Quinlyn Borneo, Sarah Chacon and Saylor Sargent placed third in 4 minutes, 7.95 seconds.

Carly Wilborn placed fourth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:13.

Victoria Fagen placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 33-02. Ashley Kieneitz placed eighth in the discus with a mark of 99-05.3, and Madison Obernesser was eighth in the 3,000 meters in 12:35.95.

FLC will be a the University of Nebraska-Kerney Invitational on Friday in Kearney, Nebraska.
