Skyhawks Scoreboard: Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse wins third in last four games

Softball drops 11th in a row

The Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team is heating up this spring with wins in three of the Skyhawks’ last four games.

After more than a week off, a welcome break after playing four games in six days, the Skyhawks returned to the field Saturday in Colorado Springs and earned a 15-8 victory against University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

FLC (3-4, 3-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) held a 5-4 lead at halftime and outscored the Mountain Lions 10-4 in the second half to secure the win.

Kelli Warmout led FLC’s offensive attack, as she scored four goals to reach 20 on the season. Regan Olson also had four goals to get to 15 this season, while Taylor Cabrera and Anna Dennison each had three. Cabrera now has 15 goals this year, and Dennison has scored seven times.

Vanessa Nelson led UCCS (4-5, 0-2 RMAC) with five goals.

Daris Wienk played all 60 minutes in goal for FLC. She made eight saves to earn the win. Emma Becker was in goal for the Mountain Lions, and she made five saves in the loss.

Along with her four goals, Olson added two assists and three groundballs. Cabrera led FLC with eight groundballs, and Warmouth added six. Warmouth also had a team-high five draw control wins, while Cabrera and Denison each had three.

After seven games on the road to open the season, FLC now will prepare for its first home game at 11 a.m. Saturday against No. 12 Regis (4-2, 0-0 RMAC). FLC dropped a non-conference game at Regis 24-6 on March 3.

Softball

The losing streak for the FLC softball team (7-21, 1-13 RMAC) hit 11 games Saturday, as the Skyhawks dropped a doubleheader at Regis by scores of 11-1 and 6-1.

In the 11-1 Game 1 loss that went five innings because of the run rule, FLC scored its lone run when Angelique Elemen reached home on a Regis error.

FLC was held to three hits from Denae Fisher, McKenna Hefley and Madelynne Blood-Smyth. FLC drew only one walk. Fisher had one stolen base.

Kassidy Trumbo (1-6) was the losing pitcher for FLC. She gave up 12 hits, 11 earned runs, three walks and struck one three batters.

Logan Losh (9-4) was the winning pitcher for Regis. She allowed three hits and no earned runs. She struck out three and walked one.

In Game 2, FLC scored its lone run on a Lauren Caldwell RBI-double that scored Fisher in the sixth inning.

Caldwell and Fisher each had two hits for FLC, which totaled seven hits in the game.

Kelly Decker (0-4) took the loss for FLC in the pitching circle. She allowed six hits, four runs – three earned – while she walked six and struck out four in 4 1/3 innings pitched. She also hit two batters. Kendra Keahbone pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief. She allowed three hits and two earned runs, and struck out two without issuing a free pass.

Taylor Armitage (7-5) was the winning pitcher for Regis (17-9, 12-2 RMAC). She allowed seven hits and one run in seven innings of work. She struck out three and walked two.

The two teams will play two more games Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Denver.
