Ty Lang, a sophomore defender for the Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team, was named to the All-South Central Region second team.
Lang, originally from Denver, started all 19 matches for the Skyhawks, who finished the season 10-6-4 overall and third in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at 9-3-2. He scored one goal and had four assists, which led FLC.
As part of FLC’s back line, Lang and the Skyhawks allowed 18 goals on the season.
The all-region accolade added to Lang’s list of accomplishments this fall, as he was named All-RMAC first team at the end of the season.
Star freshman Vivian Gray received a birthday present when she was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Gray, from Argyle, Texas, had a strong performance in her return to the Lone Star State. She pulled down 22 rebounds, had five blocks and three steals in wins against Angelo State University and Texas A&M-Kingsville during the weekend in San Angelo, Texas.
In five games this season, Gray has averaged 16.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
With the two wins in Texas, FLC moved to 5-0 on the season and jumped up to No. 11 in this week’s WBCA coaches poll. The Skyhawks were ranked 14th last week and 22nd in the preseason poll.
Ashland has the No. 1 ranking with all 24 of the first-place votes.
No other RMAC team made the top 25 or received votes in the poll.
FLC will begin RMAC play this weekend with road trips to Pueblo on Friday to face Colorado State University-Pueblo (2-4), and to Las Vegas, New Mexico, on Saturday for a meeting with New Mexico Highlands University (2-3).
CSU-Pueblo was the preseason favorite to win the conference and was ranked No. 5 in the nation when the preseason poll was released on Oct. 31. But under first-year head coach Curtis Loyd, the ThunderWolves have struggled to start the season and have fallen out of the national rankings.
The Fort Lewis College men’s basketball team climbed four spots in the national rankings and now sits at No. 19 after a 96-66 win against Johnson & Wales University during the weekend.
The Skyhawks (3-1) have been ranked each week of the season. They were No. 16 in the preseason poll and 23rd in last week’s poll. Tuesday’s poll revealed the 31st consecutive week the FLC men have been ranked in the top 25, a program record streak.
Northwest Missouri State (6-0) holds the No. 1 ranking and received 14 of the 16 first-place votes.
Colorado School of Mines (6-0) is the only other RMAC program ranked in the top 25 and holds the No. 6 spot. Regis University (5-0) is outside the top 25, but received 10 votes.
The Skyhawks will begin conference play this weekend. They’ll play at Colorado State University-Pueblo (3-3) on Friday, then will face New Mexico Highlands University (5-1) on Saturday in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
