Skyhawks Scoreboard: Softball’s Angelique Elemen named RMAC Player of the Week

Men’s golf team opens season; volleyball adds transfer

Angelique Elemen added to an already stellar week after she broke two program records for the Fort Lewis College softball team, as she was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s softball player of the week.

Elemen’s award gave FLC a second consecutive week with a player of the week honor, as Emily Morris was named the pitcher of the week after the opening weekend of the season.

Elemen broke the program record for career home runs (43) on Thursday against Montana State-Billings and runs batted in (148) on Friday against Western Washington.

Elemen

The senior posted a .529 batting average, had nine hits – including four home runs – scored seven runs and delivered six RBIs at the Dixie State Courtyard Classic last weekend in St. George, Utah. She had a hit in all five games and helped FLC finish the weekend with a 12-5 win over Northwest Nazarene to bring the Skyhawks back to .500 at 4-4 on the season.

The Skyhawks will travel to Tucson, Arizona, this weekend to compete in five games at the Cactus Classic.

Men’s Golf

The Fort Lewis College men’s golf team had its first meet of the spring season Sunday and Monday and finished tied for sixth out of six teams at the The Cactus Thaw at Lonestar Golf Club in El Paso, Texas.

Midland Community College won the team title, as it shot a 563, which was six shots ahead of Odessa College. Fort Lewis tied New Mexico Military Institute with a score of 610.

James Temple of Western New Mexico won the individual title with a 137, which was two shots ahead of Max Charles of Midland, who shot a 139.

The Skyhawks did not have a golfer in the top 25 of the field. Darren Edwards led FLC with a 151, as he shot rounds of 73 and 78 on the par-71 course. He tied for 27th. Blake Kusava (152) took 32nd, and Jack Call (153) tied for 33rd.

Tyler Blohm (155) and Austin Lienemann (156) were not far behind, as they finished 39th and 40th, respectively. The Skyhawks had two players who competed as individuals, as Eric Neal tied for 33rd (153) and Brendan Doyle (162) finished in 42nd.

FLC will have more than a month to prepare for its next meet, which will be March 17-19 at the Hillcat Classic in Owasso, Oklahoma.

Volleyball

The Fort Lewis College volleyball program added what hopes to be a key transfer, as Alexa Treguboff announced her commitment to the Skyhawks on Monday.

Treguboff attended Glendale Community College in Arizona, the same school that senior Haley Christiansen won a junior collegiate national championship with in 2014. Treguboff will have two years of eligibility remaining.

An outside hitter, Treguboff played in 25 matches last season. She smashed 122 kills and had 10 or more kills in 15 matches. She also had 54 digs and 26 blocks.

A Peoria, Arizona, native, Treguboff was named to the first team NJCAA All-Academic squad. She is the second player to transfer in to FLC this offseason, as Courtney Bayles, a former Bayfield High School standout, transferred in from Adams State University in January.
