Tough day for FLCSkyhawks soccer, volleyball fall

A head-strong play beat Fort Lewis College on Friday.

The Skyhawks’ women’s soccer team traveled to Denver to take on Regis (1-5-1, 1-2 RMAC) in a big Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game but came away with a 1-0 loss.

Tori Rinsem got her head on a cross from Maggie Saras to beat Kaylee Mickens of FLC, who shared time in goal with Britt Blomso.

“We didn’t quite live up to our potential,” FLC head coach Jimmy Hall said in a phone interview with The Durango Herald.

FLC (3-3-1, 2-1 RMAC) had only two shots on goal and was outshot 15-5 overall.

The Skyhawks will stay in Denver to play Metro State on Sunday.

“We need to reset and take it one game at a time,” Hall said. “We will make sure we get back to working hard, defend well and try to keep the ball. We need to move it a bit faster and be sharper.”

Volleyball

UC-Colorado Springs 3, Fort Lewis 1

VolleyballPlaying at home for the first time all season, the Skyhawks couldn’t find a win in their debut in front of friendly fans.

UC-Colorado Springs (7-4) defeated Fort Lewis’ volleyball team 3-1 (25-23, 25-15, 17-25, 29-27).

Both teams are now 2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Matisse Monty and Maddie LeBlanc led FLC with 11 kills. Hannah Martinez added 10 kills and eight digs. LeBlanc had three blocks and seven block assists.

Taylor Hamilton of the Mountain Lions led the match with 18 kills.

FLC is back home Saturday against Metro State.
