Skyhawks Scoreboard: Women’s lacrosse wins, softball drops 4 to Colorado Mesa

Softball drops four to No. 22 Colorado Mesa

The Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team never trailed in Sunday’s matchup with Westminster.

Brooke Galle’s first of four goals gave FLC the early lead and the Skyhawks never fell behind as they held off the Griffins for a 12-10 win. Galle led the attack and was joined by Nikki Fry who had two goals and two assists. Ryann Pierce and Taylor Cabrera also scored twice in the win.

Galle and Fry gave the Skyhawks (3-5, 3-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) a two goal lead early and Pierce added two more to give FLC a quick 4-0 lead.

Westminster clawed back in the first half and tied the game up at 7-7 by halftime.

FLC scored the first three goals of the second half to create some space once again. However, Westminster (5-3, 3-2 RMAC) answered and cut the deficit to one before Galle and Fry each scored again to seal the deal.

Fort Lewis will try to keep the momentum going at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Rockhurst.

SoftballThe Skyhawks hosted No. 22 Colorado Mesa this weekend in a four-game home set at Aztec Tiger Sports Complex in Aztec, New Mexico.

Fort Lewis (4-29, 3-21 RMAC) dropped all four games to the Mavericks, but nearly pulled off the upset in the weekend finale.

After losing the first three matchups by a combined score of 37-6, Fort Lewis came alive in the fourth game of the weekend.

It looked like more of the same as Colorado Mesa (28-4, 21-2 RMAC) held a 7-1 lead midway through the game. However, FLC scored six runs in a fifth inning that was capped off by Angelique Elemen’s three-run blast that brought the Skyhawks all the way back to tie the game.

The defenses held the opponents down until the ninth inning when Colorado Mesa plated two runs to grab the lead.

Tristen Gilbert’s double cut the Mavericks’ lead to one, but she was left on base and FLC lost 9-8.
