Brianna Leavell of Fort Lewis College fires off a pitch to a New Mexico Highlands University batter on Friday night at Aspen Field at FLC. Leavell and the Skyhawks shined under the lights for a rare night doubleheader. After going down 5-0 in the top of the second inning on a grand slam by Highlands’ Camrynn Ziegler, the Skyhawks answered right back to tie the game going to the third inning when Leavell hit an RBI single to right field to score Shelby Hotchkiss. Later in the fourth inning, Leavell blasted a two-run homer, and in the fifth she had a RBI sacrifice fly to lead FLC to a 10-5 win. She also improved her pitching record to 4-8 in a complete game in which she struck out six and walked two while allowing five earned runs on 10 hits.
