Fort Lewis Colleges dreams of repeating as Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament champion were dashed by a sloth of Grizzlies. The FLC softball team couldnt get going offensively, mustering just one hit in a 3-0 loss to Adams State that knocked the Skyhawks from the tournament and ended their season Saturday in Lakewood.Kamalii Peneku managed the lone hit for FLC (20-24).
Adams State pitcher Kelsey Sellars (10-5) was outstanding, allowing just one hit in seven innings while walking two and striking out four.
We hit the ball hard. Just nothing really fell in, FLC head coach Kira Zeiter said. She did a nice job hitting her spots. Threw in a changeup every once in awhile to keep us off balance, little rise ball.
Kassie Haubert (8-13) allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits, struck out four and walked five in 5 2/3 innings, taking the loss in her final game for FLC. She finished her career as the Skyhawks all-time leader with 37 wins in the circle.
Pitched really well, Zeiter said. She had a nice game to go out on. Wouldnt expect anything less from her. Wish we couldve gotten a few runs to back her up.
Katie Watkins allowed just one hit in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Adams State scored once in the fifth inning and twice in the sixth to advance at the three-day RMAC Tournament.
