A handful of podium finishes helped Fort Lewis College cycling team finish second in the omnium at the 2014 UCA Cycling Collegiate Cyclo-Cross Nationals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Boulder.
The Skyhawks finished with 249 points total from three events – the team relay, men’s race and women’s race – finishing second to national champion Marian, which finished with 282 to claim the title.
Fort Lewis opened the weekend with a runner-up finish in the Division I mixed team relay, finishing in 36 minutes, 5 seconds. Marian claimed the title in the event, finishing in 35:23, with Vermont in third in 37:02.
Sofia Gomez Villafane paced the Skyhawks in the women’s event, finishing second in 39:28. Marian’s Kaitlin Antonneau captured the title in 38:27, with teammate Coryn Rivera in third in 39:40.
Skyler Trujillo, Cody Cupp and Kolby Preble finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively in the men’s event for Fort Lewis. Kerry Werner took home the title for Lees-McRae in 47:26 with Andrew Dillman of Marian coming in second and Texas’ Kevin Fish third.
