Skyhawks steal the Pirates’ local running talent

Emily Bryant is making a short trek down U.S. Highway 160 to continue her running career.

The Pagosa Springs High School alumna signed a National Letter of Intent with the Fort Lewis College cross country team, head coach Mark Dutro announced in a news release Thursday.

She competed in basketball, cross country, swimming, track and field and volleyball for the Pirates.

Her basketball team finished second at state last season, and Bryant was part of a 4x800-meter relay team that finished ninth at state.

“Emily comes to us from Pagosa Springs to help boost our women’s team and build our local and Western Slope talent,” Dutro said in the release. “She comes from a well-coached cross country program, a strong family and community support. We are excited about her addition as a strong student-athlete, leader and teammate.”
