Canyon, Texas, hasn’t been very accommodating to the Fort Lewis College softball team.
The Skyhawks lost their third and fourth consecutive games Saturday against two nationally ranked opponents at the West Texas A&M University Invitational.
“That competition should make us a better team going into conference next week,” FLC head coach Kira Zeiter said.
No. 11 Angelo State beat FLC (3-7) 11-2 in five innings in Game 1.
The Rambelles slugged 14 hits and two home runs in the game. They scored seven runs in the top of the first inning.
Victoria Johnson took the loss for FLC after failing to record an out and giving up three earned runs.
Myndee Thompson paced the Skyhawks’ offense with two hits and a run batted in. Fort Lewis’ bats didn’t fare much better against No. 8 and host West Texas A&M.
The Lady Buffs beat the Skyhawks 12-2 by the 10-run rule when Jessica Sipe hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Sipe led West Texas A&M with three hits and four RBIs.
The Lady Buffs hit three total home runs in the game.
FLC managed 11 hits but left 11 players on base.
In practice we’ll just put them in a pressure situation,” Zeiter said. “In the game we talked about getting those pressure two-out hits.”
Kiley Raica pitched four innings and allowed eight earned runs in the loss.
Kaitlyn Bending slapped two hits for the Skyhawks and picked up their only RBI in the game.
FLC will close out play in the tournament against Tarleton State at 10 a.m. Saturday.
