The mission of Slew Beauty LLC, Dani Webb said, is to keep organic skincare affordable.
“It’s all organic, natural skincare,” she said. “We really try to wild harvest in the area. So a lot of it does kind of come from here, Colorado, the Southwest.”
In addition to plants she grows as a part-time farmer, Webb said she sources a lot of the herbs she uses in her products come from other local farmers.
“Right now we’re not doing wholesale,” she said. “We’re actually trying to slowly expand out on our own so we don’t have to have an increase in price.”
Webb said she first got into herbalism in her early teenage years, doing a lot of research on her own in addition to taking courses and working as an herbal intern for a long time.
“I decided to combine the medicinal plants with skincare and kind of show a different way of using it,” she said. “I mean there’s so many wonderful herbalists around here and farms … I just kind of wanted to show you you can put it on your skin as well. It has the same great properties.”
Webb began selling cosmetics about six years ago, beginning with a single product, her Liquid Gold turmeric face wash, according to posts on her Instagram page. This is her second year with an expanded “slew” of products, she said, including face washes, deodorant sprays, sunscreen, face balms, hair oils, beard balm, body oils and after-sun balms.
She said that her products change slightly with the seasons, based on the plants that she can get at the time. She makes everything in a studio outside her house in Durango.
In addition to the Durango Farmers Market, Slew’s products are available on a website Webb is building and hopes to have fully up and running by the winter, she said. She also communicates with customers through Instagram and does deliveries, meetups and ships her products.
