I live along a dirt through road that connects U.S. Highway 160 with Florida Road, so the cars and big trucks that use it are not always local.
Traffic is heavy at times, and fast; the speed limit is 20 mph, but busy folks are exceeding the recommended velocity.
Our overworked and underfunded road and bridge department tries to keep mag chloride on it – it works and is appreciated – but the rain and busy traffic quickly have it back to dust, curtains of dust.
So, when you are cruising through La Plata County dirt roads and you look in the rearview and see contrails, back off and do something your neighbors will appreciate. Slow down and let us breathe some air without the dust.
Some day, who knows, we might get asphalt, and we all will breathe a little cleaner air.
