A controlled burn got out of control east of Durango on County Road 234 Tuesday afternoon and burned about an acre.
Residents burning the field reported the fire around 2:10 p.m., when they felt they lost control of it, said Scot Davis, community education coordinator with Durango Fire Protection District.
The fire was controlled about 30 minutes later, he said.
The fire district has no plans to stop allowing controlled burns, he said.
While fire danger is typically low in the winter time, Davis urged residents to be conscious of the unusually dry conditions.
Since Nov. 1, there have been more than 20 brush or wildland fires, he said.
