Smarter than your average bear

Pam Gibson, a facility assistant with Manna Soup Kitchen, disposes of food scraps in its new bear-proof trash cans and protective cage. Dave Myscofski, a friend of Manna’s, designed the cans with materials he gathered. He put them together in a matter of days to help Manna deal with problem bears. In June 2011, a black bear nipped a man’s arm on public land just east of Manna.
