Outgoing Bayfield Mayor Rick Smith and long-time town trustee Ed Morlan were honored Tuesday evening as they left their positions. Town Manager Chris La May presented them with T-shirts that read, "I was a Bayfield Board Member and all I got for serving was this crummy T-shirt." La May noted that several major capital projects happened during the past eight years while Smith was Mayor. He made an attempt to document Morlan's many, many years on the town board or town planning commission.
The T-shirts weren't the only things they received. La May presented plaques to each of them, and Town Marshal Joe McIntyre jokingly presented them with Monopoly "Get out of jail free" cards in case they celebrated too much later in the evening. He also presented them with police whistles in little wooden boxes and thanked the board for its support for the marshal's office during a time when police departments around the country have received a lot of criticism.
Morlan's departure leaves a town board vacancy.
