Colorado Department of Transportation issued a travel advisory Thursday to notify Southwest Colorado motorists that maintenance crews will perform avalanche mitigation operations Friday on U.S. Highway 550 at Red Mountain Pass and U.S. Highway 160 at Wolf Creek Pass.
Travel impacts for Wolf Creek Pass will include brief, intermittent delays starting at 6 a.m. Crews expect that traffic will be impacted for most of the day as crews conduct operations.
Travel impacts for Red Mountain Pass will include a two-hour closure from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. of the south side of the pass, from mile marker 75, 4 miles north of Silverton, to mile marker 79, at the summit near Ophir Pass.
CDOT recommends that motorists take the expected traffic impacts into consideration if they plan to travel Friday through the work zones on Red Mountain and Wolf Creek passes. Drivers are also urged to watch for snow equipment, maintenance crews and avalanche control operations on mountain passes as work is being conducted.
