A small snow “slip” landed on part of U.S. Highway 550 near Lime Creek Road on Tuesday, and the Colorado Department of Transportation is cautioning motorists of the increased risk of snowslides as temperatures warm in Southwest Colorado.
Around 4:45 p.m., a small amount of snow, about 15 feet long and barely a foot deep, slipped onto U.S. Highway 550. The highway was not closed, and the snow was almost immediately cleared away, said CDOT spokeswoman Lisa Schwantes.
However, Schwantes cautioned motorists to be aware of the risk of snow sliding onto roadways.
“We’ll probably see these more frequently just because of the warm afternoons,” she said.
