A day of Western-themed events, with kids and people with special needs in mind, will be held Tuesday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.
The fifth annual free event is geared toward local youths, although anyone can attend, said Kaynet Rathjen, event organizer.
“It’s to show the town kids what rodeo is all about,” Rathjen said. “To show them Western life.”
To start things off, local band Encore will play at 9:15 a.m.
An exhibition rodeo will go from 10 to 11 a.m. It’s put on by local rodeo competitors, many on high school teams.
The fifth annual Snow Top Exceptional Rodeo, for children and adults with special needs, will be held at 11 a.m. Rathjen said that the event usually attracts about 40 participants.
A number of other events will begin at 11 a.m., including a hotdog lunch, a petting zoo, tractor talk and hay rides.
Fiesta Days itself runs July 24 through 27. Rodeo events will be held each day, beginning with team roping on the 24th. A 7 p.m. rodeo is scheduled for the 25th, with a parade and rodeo set for the 26th. Fiesta Days concludes with a 1 p.m. rodeo on the 27th.
