Fellow Durangoans, I trust that you agree that we are fortunate to have a great school district in 9-R and an exceptional superintendent in Dan Snowberger.
The recent public assaults on Dan and the district have been one-sided character attacks, apparently motivated by a small fringe group led by disgruntled former employees. This has been greatly exacerbated by the sensationalist reporting in the local media.
I have spent my entire career working to support public education across the country and observed countless school leaders and districts.
Dan Snowberger is among the very best superintendents I have ever encountered. He has led the district to documented improved student learning and performance. And, while he has moved student achievement upward, he has demonstrated remarkable inclusiveness for parents, charter schools and the broader Durango community.
To make matters even worse, these unveiled attempts to remove Dan Snowberger from office have only accelerated while he is suffering though a terrible personal crisis with his wife, Olga, and thus he is unable to properly defend himself. How sad.
I call on the vast majority of our local community to speak out in support of Dan Snowberger and the amazing job he is doing for our schoolchildren and for us as taxpayers.
Let us reject these misplaced and unsupported attacks on his leadership and character. And let the school board do its job.
