With winter soon upon us, events in preparation for this year’s Snowdown have begun, with organizers announcing the party to tap the official Snowdown beer.

Keeping with the “Back to the Eighties” theme, Ska Brewing Co. will tap its “Frogger Lager” at 5 p.m. Dec. 17 at the brewery’s location at 225 Girard St. in Bodo Industrial Park. The event is open to the public.

Event organizers are also reminding participants that the Snowdown Awkward Eighties Photo Contest is underway, and those headed to the tapping party are encouraged to bring “your most awesomely awkward eighties photo.”

Snowdown runs Jan. 27 through Sunday, Jan. 31. This year’s theme is, “Back to the Eighties.”

In other Durango beer news, Ska Brewery reported the sales of its Heavy Metal EPA beer reached $4,000, which will be donated to the community relief fund for those financially harmed by the Aug. 5 Gold King Mine spill.
