Soda maker adds some fizz to election race

Avery’s Beverages of New Britain, Conn., is continuing its tradition of creating soft drinks based on presidential candidates. The company’s entries for this year’s presidential cycle – Trump Tonic, left, and Hillary Hooch. The company has a good record for predicting winners, too, with Barack O’Berry beating John McCream and Cream de Mitt in the last two elections.

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – A Connecticut soft drink company has released two specialty sodas named for candidates in this year’s presidential election.

Avery’s Beverages in New Britain is offering Trump Tonic and Hillary Hooch – named, of course, for Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Trump Tonic comes with the slogan, “Make America grape again.” Hillary Hooch is a berry soda with ingredients that general manager Rob Metz jokes are classified.

Metz says his company is tracking sales and will post the results weekly on the company’s Facebook page.

It’s the third straight presidential campaign that the 112-year-old soft drink company has offered candidate-based drinks.

Avery’s has a good track record. Barack O’Berry outsold both John McCream in 2008 and Cream de Mitt in 2012.
