Software on the city water dock will be replaced this week after a glitch in the system placed the facility out of order intermittently on Friday.
The water dock is on Frontage Road off U.S. Highway 160 near the Durango Mall. Locals can purchase water by the gallon with the swipe of a card as a matter of convenience, or when drought strikes.
Steve Salka, utility director, said someone corrupted the software by swiping an inappropriate card.
“We’re replacing the software and the hard-drive of the system, which will be here Wednesday, mid-morning,” he said.
The software is under warranty, and it will be replaced free of charge. Salka said the problem won’t happen again with the new equipment.
The city expects to install the replacement equipment sometime Wednesday, which should disrupt public use of the dock for no more than 15 minutes.
