The Steaming Bean might also be a spiked bean.
The gourmet coffee shop at 915 Main Ave. got approval Tuesday for a liquor license from the Local Licensing Authority.
Licensing Authority Chairman Ron LeBlanc was assured he could still get his morning coffee.
Owner Ivan Unkovskoy said he is not planning to change the character of his establishment.
“We’re not trying to turn it into a bar,” he said in an interview. “We won’t be competing with the Ranch. You won’t see pool tables in there.”
Unkovskoy said he and his wife, Rhonda, are looking to evolve the business along a “European” model, giving patrons options for a shot of Baileys Irish Cream in their coffee as well as serving “light cocktails,” beer and wine.
But patrons won’t be getting Bloody Marys or Mimosas with their breakfast burritos as Unkovskoy does not anticipate serving alcohol until after 2 p.m.
A neighborhood petition got 117 signatures in support of the applicant’s license and none against.
Unkovskoy expects to begin serving alcohol within the next month.
