Summer’s here. Welcome, visitors, and a big shout out to locals as well.
Since the population doubles with many new cars, trucks, motor homes and 5th-wheels, not to mention the pedestrians and dogs, we must all adapt. First and most importantly, remember pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks. Drivers must stop, like it or not.
So that means you biggy trucks that are saving up those extra black cloud blasts by going 60 down Main at 120 decibels, you really aren’t impressing anyone. The tourists are scared and the shop owners call the cops. Just don’t do it, it’s bad for business. I heard they like it in Bayfield and Ignacio.
For those tourists and locals that never noticed the part on the speed limit signs on the outskirts of town that say 25 mph (unless otherwise posted), it really isn’t 25 mph everywhere. That leads me to the part of: Go the speed limit – especially on 160-550 south of town where it is 50 mph. Please, the traffic lights work much better if the flow is at the speed limit. Please don’t take six blocks to get to it either. Go. Gas is cheap and it’s kind of fun if you haven’t done it for a while.
Please drive in the right lane if searching for something or driving in the mountains. If you are getting passed on the right, you’re in the wrong lane. There used to be signs and writing on the road for you old timers. Somebody was offended, I suppose.
So please drive like you do at home; the rules are the same. You know to stop at stop signs and to not run red lights. People die from that. Have a marvelous time and let those of us who live and work here make it to work on time. We do love you.
