Song, pledge from ’50s ‘not fantasy’

On April 29, Bill Roberts wrote of the case concerning the Bremerton, Wash., football coach who was fired for praying on the 50-yard line.

Roberts spoke of our nation that never did exist in the 1950s and was nostalgic with a cultural fantasy of Protestant prayer, Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing “My Country Tis of Thee.”

How could he disparage this song and pledge? They gave and give the nation strength and pride, loyalty for America.

Our country needed this pledge and song to help bind us. They are not fantasy. They are hope and will, to make our nation strong and our country well again.
