Plans have come into place for services after last week’s shocking death of professional cyclist Benjamin Sonntag.

There will be a service at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Columba Catholic Church at 1800 East 2nd Avenue. At 2 p.m. Saturday, there will be a memorial and celebration of life for Sonntag at the Fort Lewis College ballroom in the Student Union building.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, there will be a downtown bike parade that will start at the Durango Transit Center and ride to Buckley Park.

As of Tuesday evening, details into the investigation surrounding Sonntag’s death had not been released. Sonntag, 39, was riding his bicycle on County Road 105 in southwest La Plata County when he was struck by a 19-year-old driver in a 1991 Ford Range pickup truck. Sonntag was pronounced dead on the scene.
