Durango gallery opens space in New York City

It went off without a hitch.

Sorrel Sky officially opened its new gallery in the SoHo neighborhood in New York City last month.

This makes the third space for Sorrel Sky, which also has galleries in Santa Fe and downtown Durango.

Gallery owner Shanan Campbell said the grand opening – which went on for days and featured six events (four private) – was “over the top.”

“My head has been spinning,” she said. “I’m so tired still.”

The gallery is currently featuring the work of photographer David Yarrow, and there are plans to bring in additional artists in the summer, Campbell said, adding that she plans to stay in New York until early June and then head back west.

And for Campbell, who had been looking for a spot for a new gallery for a while, the best part of the whole operation was opening a space that was close to where one of her sons lives – the significance of that, she said, became clear when she and her family and Yarrow and his and took time during the opening events to sit down to dinner.

“It was like this moment; this is what matters to all of us,” she said. “And it really was sweet.”
