Southern Ute Indian Tribe Chairman Melvin Baker announced Monday he will resign after nearly 15 years in office.

The decision was for “personal reasons,” according to a news release posted to the tribe’s Facebook page.

“It has been an honor to serve our people,” Baker said.

Baker’s resignation takes effect at noon May 15.

The Southern Ute Indian Tribe did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday morning.
