Southern Ute Indian Tribe rescinds Stage 1 fire restrictions

After a long and arduous fire season, widespread moisture finally occurred throughout the Southern Ute Indian Reservation allowing Stage 1 fire restrictions to be rescinded as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire restrictions have been in place since early May, and during that time, there have been a total of 38 fires on the reservation with the largest being the 220-acre Six Shooter Fire. Southern Ute Agency fire personnel have also traveled to fires throughout the country, working on fires in California, Oregon and northern Colorado.

Although the fire danger has diminished, everyone on reservation lands is still encouraged to be cautious with fire.
