Southern Utes head to runoff election

2 chairman candidates, four councilor finalists

Southern Ute Indian Tribe registered voters will have to go back to the polls for a runoff election Dec. 12.

They will have two choices for tribal council chairman, Clement J. Frost and Joycelyn Peabody Dutchie.

Voters will select two from four finalists out of the original eight candidates for Tribal Council members. The four top vote-getters from the Nov. 7 election are Aaron V. Torres, Amy J. Barry, Janelle F. Doughty and Tyson Thompson.

Voters must be enrolled members of the tribe and registered to vote through the tribe. The final day for registration and to request an absentee ballot is 5 p.m. Dec. 2.

The emergency ballot request deadline is 5 p.m. Dec. 11.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at the SunUte Community Center, 390 Mouache Drive in Ignacio.
