Southwest Ability Summit to take place Thursday

The fourth annual Southwest Ability Summit, “Building Inclusive Communities,” will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

This free event brings together children and adults with disabilities, their families and support professionals for a day of learning, networking and a free lunch.

Topics will include “ableism,” presented by Ptisawquah; accessing employment supports; a “Speaking for Ourselves” workshop; exploring college options; emergency planning; free technological resources; social security and medical benefits; “In our Own Voices” storytelling and more.

The Ability Summit is presented in partnership with regional agencies including San Juan BOCES, Southwest Center for Independence, Community Connections, the Arc of Southwest Colorado, Adaptive Sports Association and Durango School District 9-R.
