What does Rep. Hurd think about health care and the government shutdown? Who knows.
Hurd certainly does not communicate much on these subjects to his constituents.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office predicts that 4 million people will lose their insurance in the coming months and that 14 million people will lose coverage by 2034. At the same time, premiums will rise about 100%, rural hospitals will be at risk of closing and 2.4 million persons will lose their SNAP/food stamp benefits. Southwest Colorado will take a larger per capita hit than the rest of the country.
Hurd can vote to reopen the government. He can vote to restore the Medicaid cuts and to reduce the pain, hardship and death that is coming to Southwest Colorado. Does Hurd believe that we don’t deserve access to health care? Not even the children?
I urge everybody to contact Rep Hurd. Please remind him that his job is to serve Southwest Colorado, not to curry favor with the D.C. power elites. Hurd could be a leader and a role model rather than a follower. All of his constituents could get behind that.
