Southwest Colorado better get ready – three snowstorms are forecast during the next seven days, meteorologists say.
It’ll all start Saturday morning with a storm expected to dump 8 to 16 inches of snow in the high country, said Chris Cuoco, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Some west-facing slopes above 10,000 feet in elevation could receive up to 24 inches of snow over the weekend, Cuoco said.
But Durango may be spared. High temperatures in the 40s will mean rain for most of the day Saturday, Cuoco said.
“There’s going be a good bit of rain instead of snow in the Durango area,” Cuoco said.
This weekend’s storm is expected to move out of the region Sunday morning, with snow showers hanging around the high country until Monday, Cuoco said.
Tuesday will be mostly dry, but “another significant storm” is expected to arrive Wednesday in Southwest Colorado, Cuoco said.
The midweek storm will dump snow on the region Wednesday, Thursday and into Friday morning, Cuoco said.
Snow is expected to begin falling again Friday night, with another storm that is predicted to produce more snow than this weekend’s weather, Cuoco said.
“We’re in the landing pattern as far as these storms go,” he said. “They’re going right over us.”
