While communities rebuild after recent flooding, the Colorado Department of Revenue is offering to extend tax deadlines, and 211 Colorado is giving away free Airbnb credits to affected residents.

Residents and business owners in Vallecito who were affected by the weekend’s flooding are being given more time to file their taxes, according to a Monday news release. The move is a response to Gov. Jared Polis’ verbal disaster declaration Sunday.

“We are supporting the Coloradans who have been impacted by these devastating floods every way we can, and that includes extending the state’s tax deadlines,” Polis said in the release.

The release specified that certain deadlines for tax filings have been extended to Dec. 31. The extension applies to income tax filings that are due Oct. 15 and sales taxes that are due Oct. 20, the release said.

“Taxpayers can ask for penalty waivers for other taxes and fees due during October, including, for example, marijuana, fuel and the retailer delivery fee by contacting the department,” the release said. “Taxpayers affected by the floods have until Dec. 31, 2025, to file these taxes.”

The relief is for state taxes only, the release said, and does not apply in cities or counties that collect their own taxes.

The release said the department will not apply the deadline waiver to taxpayers automatically. To request an extended deadline, eligible taxpayers must call the department at (303) 238-7378. The department’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Additionally, emergency resource allocation service 211 Colorado is partnering with Airbnb.org to offer free emergency housing to displaced families in Southwest Colorado. The program applies to residents of Archuleta and La Plata counties.

According to an email sent to The Durango Herald, all residents need to do is dial 211 to be connected to an Airbnb house.

“All stays are free for guests and funded by Airbnb.org,” the email said. “When families have a safe place to stay, they also have the breathing room they need to focus on recovery, employment and connecting with other social services.”

Airbnb hosts in Colorado can sign up to list their home for free or at a discount to guests the email said, which will unlock more housing for displaced families.
