Southwest Rescue offers Wilderness first-aid classes

Wilderness first-aid class offered

Southwest Rescue is offering two sessions of a Wilderness First Aid class from 6 to 10 p.m. March 14 and March 16 and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 18 and March 19.

The Wilderness First Aid workshops are designed to introduce participants to the concepts of medical care in a wilderness setting. This course focuses on basic life-support skills, improvised splinting, wound management, assessing spinal injuries, selected environmental-related problems, and overall patient assessment and treatment.

Eighty percent of the course is hands-on skills practice and simulations. A lecture is limited to basic anatomy and physiology. A completion card is given to each participant at the end of the course. Because of time constraints CPR certification is not included.

The cost is $250 per participant.
