As a full time, hardworking tax payer, I should have the right to see my tax dollars hard at work fixing broken sidewalks, pot holes, roads, bridges and giving raises to our police officers who serve and protect.
I have seen little or none of this happening at all for years. By all means, city council, keep spending all of your time on the people visiting Durango without permanent dwellings, as that must be why you were elected?
I can’t wait until you build housing, camps, wine, dine, clothe everybody (and give them cell phones with unlimited data plans) on my hard-earned taxpayer dollars.
Just remember that once you start, you will never be able to stop! Because if you try and end any of this, the ACLU, or some other wonderful organization with too much time on its hands, will come after the city of Durango.
We all know that Telluride and other surrounding cities continue to buy these people a bus ticket and give them $100 cash to leave and to come to beautiful Durango. Let’s have these neighbors of ours sign a forever document that states they will pay their fair share for shipping people without permanent dwellings to Durango. We can send them a monthly bill for the above expenses, including more police officers, for every person they send to us.
After all we are all in this together, are we not?
