Spiffy, new home

Hundreds of parents and children turned out for the grand opening of Ignacio Elementary School on Tuesday evening in Ignacio. Ignacio School District Superintendent Rocco Fuschetto, foreground, said the new 60,000-square-foot school building has geothermal heating and cooling; solar tubes in the ceilings of the cafeteria, library and every classroom for lighting; and will eventually have solar panels on the roof to provide electricity. Fuschetto said 320 or so kindergarten through fifth-grade students will spend their first day in the new building today.
